Flowers

Our daughter’s love of flowers and talent for color inspire us to roam our property regularly, pick a bucket of whatever catches her eye, and share the bounty with you!

A few of our flowers are planted intentionally, but those rarely capture her interest as we stroll through our yard, garden, and wild spaces. Instead, she is drawn to wildflowers, grasses, herbs, vines, and other assorted flora that end up creating beautiful wild bouquets.

Many of our flowers we gather from what we call our “Rescued Plant Plots”, areas we have dedicated to flowers, shrubs and other plants that were at risk of being displaced as old farmsteads are swallowed up by urban sprawl and corporate agriculture. With the owner’s permission, a couple of shovels and a pickup, we dig up as many species as we can, and replant them on our acreage.

Remember those snowball bushes that used to brush the underside of the windows at your Grandma’s house? Or the yellow-and-brown iris lining the sidewalk you learned to ride your bike on? Perhaps its the delicate pink peony, beautiful and fragrant, and a sure sign of Spring. All of these flowers, as well as hostas, yuccas, roses, daffodils, lily-of-the-valley and many, many more have been rescued and replanted. in our Rescued Plant Plots.

We don’t always know the varieties of the plants we rescue. It’s sort of like going to the animal shelter to adopt a pet. You never know quite what you’re going to get. But what a mix of joy and nostalgia we feel whenever a rescued plant pops through the soil and thanks us with a bright, bold bloom.

So, if you’re looking for a specific type or color of flower, you may or many not find it at our farm stand. But whatever flowers we have available, we’re certain they’ll help you find happiness.
